About Dunbier Trailers Russell Dunbier, started Dunbier Marine Products by renting half of a 300 meter factory in South Rd, Moorabin in May, 1969, doing a variety of welding and repair work and manufacturing many different types of trailers, tow bars and steel garages. The decision was made in late 1973 to concentrate solely on manufacturing boat trailers and their components. Within 9 months of that decision Dunbier moved to a larger premises and a production line of boat trailers was underway. Over the years from the mid 1970's to the late 80's the Dunbier dealer base continued growing at a rapid rate and we moved to a larger manufacturing premises twice in that period to keep up with demand for our trailers. |

In 1990 Dunbier openend its first interstate office and warehouse in Slacks Creek, Queensland where we out grew that warehouse in 3 years and moved to a larger holding yard and warehouse in Yatala. A new 2500 square meter assembly plant and warehouse was due to be finished by late 2005 at Omeau, Queensland. Continuing with Dunbiers plan of Australia wide distribution, in 1995, Dunbier opened its Sydney office and warehouse at Revesby. A new factory and warehouse was constructed and finished in late 2004 and Devon Rd, Ingleburn, a southern Sydney suburb. In 2000 Dunbier opened a warehouse in Maddington a suburb of Perth in Western Australia and in May 2002, opened another warehouse at Wingfield approx 5 kilometres north of Adelaide, South Australia. In May 2004, Dunbier opened its first International Office and holding yard and North Harbour, an outer suburb north of Auckland, New Zealand. Dunbier has been manufacturing boat trailers and their components for over 37 years, building a solid reputation for quality and backup reliability and successfully competes with manufactures on a global scale. This is your guarantee that Dunbier is the finest product available both locally and internationally. |

Trailer Capabilities & Braking Requirements
When making your selection on a new trailer or a complete package, it is important to note the maximum weight capacity of the trailer. This information is contained on the ID plate fitted by Dunbier to the trailer. The nominated weight capacity includes the trailer. You should allow for marine gear and approximately 1 kg for every litre of fuel. If you overload the trailer, problems may occur such as blown tyres and bent axles. It's just not worth it. To avoid problems, upgrade your wheelbase or change to a tandem axle arrangement.
Brakes or no brakes? The law varies in different countries but in Australia brakes are required on one axle for boat, motor, trailer combinations over 750kg and under 2,000kgs. Over 2,000kg, a Hydrastar Breakaway Braking system is required and calipers to be fitted to all wheels. In New Zealand brakes are not legally required on boat trailers under 2000kg but are recommended by Dunbier over 1000kgs. Hydrastar Breakaway Breaks are not legally required until 2500kg in New Zealand.

FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions)

FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q1: l want to convert my trailer from skids to rollers can l do this?
Yes we have rollers in a double roller set or quad roller set that clamp to most frames being 50mm or 75mm. See our parts section on our "Trailer Repair Centre" Website to view these rollers. Codes 3100 and 3110.
Q2: I cannot find a serial number on my frame which I need for the roads department. What do I do?
Can you re-issue a number for me?
No we cannot. If you no longer can find a serial number you will need to re-apply through your state roads department. Without proof of purchase from an original receipt of purchase of your Dunbier trailer we cannot re-issue. Early Dunbier trailers had their serial numbers stamped into the top section where the A Frame meets. Alternatively look on the left hand inside frame where it could have been stamped or labelled. Current models since around 1992 have an aluminium plate riveted to the inside of the A frame.
Q3: I am looking at buying a boat and am unsure whether it requires brakes or not? Can you help?
Laws in Australia require boat/motor and trailer packages that weigh over 750kg including all three weights require brakes. If the boat/motor and trailer weighs over 2000kg you will need a breakaway system. See our Hydrastar Braking system page on our website for more information. In New Zealand the law is if the boat weighs over 1000kg it requires brakes and over 2500kg requires breakaway. It is also recommended you refer to the handbook of your vehicle to ensure your vehicle has the towing capacity of the boat/motor/trailer package.
Q4: How do I select the right trailer for my boat?
There are several aspects you need to consider.
Q5: What stud pattern are the tyres on my Dunbier Trailer?
|
Q6: What wheel bearings do I need to use with my Dunbier Trailer?
Dunbier uses standard Holden wheel bearings for all trailers with 39mm round and 40mm Square Axles. Axles that are 45mm Square use Ford Bearings.
Q7: Do Dunbier build tilt trailers?
No Dunbier don't build tilt trailers however our drive on trailers now have a tilting rear cross member to make launching and retrieving your boat so much easier. If you were wanting a tilt trailer for beach launching and retrieving we have other options that can assist, such as extendable drawbars and a beach loader system for our Dunbier Loader Series trailers.
Q8: Do Dunbier have trailers to suit Trailer Sailors?
Some small Trailer Sailors will fit on our trailers. However generally they require a custom built trailer, which Dunbier does not make. Unfortunately due to our production schedule we are unable to make custom built trailers. However we suggest you contact us to assist you, with parts to bring back the life on an old trailer.
Q9: Does Dunbier build a double Jet Ski Trailer?
Yes, Dunbier does build a double Jet Ski Trailer and is available with either 13" or 14" wheels.
